The People of Wyndrose

 

Dr. Julie JCH Ryan is President of the Wyndrose Technical Group, Inc.  She specializes in security systems engineering, creating solutions for specific operational environments based on realistic assessments of the organization’s security requirements.  She began her career as an Air Force intelligence officer, and later joined the Defense Intelligence Agency as a civilian, serving as an all-source intelligence analyst. Her work at DIA included supporting the early attempts to understand how to develop trusted computer systems, including directing and monitoring the design, development, and delivery of secure databases. Her responsibilities spanned budget and program management techniques, system design and engineering practices, data base design, intelligence data requirements, information security concepts, user capabilities and knowledge bases, and human engineering.

After leaving government service, Julie Ryan continued working in security engineering.  At Sterling Federal Systems she performed functional, technical and cost feasibility analyses of alternative system implementations for clients in the Intelligence Community and military services. At Booz Allen & Hamilton, she served as a special consultant to highly classified Government programs, performing technical analyses, test and system engineering, and long-range strategic planning. At Welkin Associates, she performed studies and investigations of new and unique uses for applying emerging technologies in secure information management, data processing and product distribution.  For TRW, Julie served as an Information Warfare specialist, coordinating applicable capabilities and competencies horizontally across the company and participating in strategic planning processes. She prepared white papers, briefings and publications on IW for both internal purposes as well as for customers. She developed an Information Order of Battle concept, exploring intelligence support to IW.  Julie participated as a Member of the Naval Studies Board of the National Academy of Sciences in studying technology implications to warfare and national security applications. She also supports the Assistant Secretary of Defense (C3I) in Information Warfare studies, evaluations and planning.

Julie is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, and received her Masters Degree from Eastern Michigan University’s College of Technology and her Doctorate from the School of Engineering and Applied Science at The George Washington University in Washington, D. C.  She teaches graduate-level classes in engineering and technology as an Assistant Professor at GWU.

danlib.jpg (35209 bytes)Daniel J. Ryan is a lawyer and businessman with over thirty years' experience in the public and private sectors and in academia. In the Public Sector, Dan served as Executive Secretary and Staff Director for the Joint Security Commission. Earlier, he was Director of Information Systems Security for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, where his areas of responsibility spanned information assurance, including classification management, cryptology and communications security, and computer security. He began his career at the National Security Agency.

In the Private Sector, Dan served as Corporate Vice President of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) with responsibility for information security programs for Government customers and commercial clients, assessing the security capabilities and limitations of their local and wide area systems and networks, providing recommendations for improvements to system and network architectures to increase security, enhancing protection through the application of security countermeasures, detecting intrusions from outside or abuses by those with authorized access to the systems and networks, and reacting effectively to attacks to prevent or limit damage. He served as the Program Manager for the Government-Wide Information Systems Security Program managing the efforts of three Sectors of SAIC and twenty subcontractors helping the Government standardize and implement information security programs, develop security architectures and standards, engineer secure information systems and networks, perform risk management assessments and analyze security requirements, support the creation and operation of teams to respond to security incidents, and implement training and awareness programs. Earlier at Booz, Allen & Hamilton, Dan consulted in the areas of strategic and program planning, system operations and coordination, data processing and telecommunications. At Bolt Beranek & Newman, he managed implementation, operation and maintenance of secure wide-area networks. He represented the Systems Development Division of TRW in Washington, D.C., and he was Director of Electronic Warfare Advanced Programs at Litton's AMECOM Division. He headed a systems engineering section at Hughes Aircraft Company where he was responsible for the design, implementation and operation of classified systems and networks.

Dan is an Adjunct Professor for George Washington University, Eastern Michigan University, James Madison University, and Utica College of Syracuse University. He holds a B. S. in Mathematics from Tulane University, an MA in Mathematics from the University of Maryland, an MBA degree from California State University, and the degree of Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland. He is a member of the Bar in the State of Maryland and the Bar of the District of Columbia. He is Certified as a Professional in the fields of Mathematics, Data Systems Analysis and Cryptologic Mathematics by the United States Government.

Robert W. Hughes completed a distinguished career with the United States Air Force before joining Wyndrose. He began his career as a navigator and then became an F-15  fighter pilot. After attending Armed Forces Staff College, he developed fighter directives governing the Rules of Engagement and operational procedures for the defense of Northe America. He was then selected to join the attache corps and was assigned as the Assistant Air Attache at the United States embassy in Moscow. Following a year as a National Defense Fellow at Boston University, Rob and his family were sent to Germany, where he managed a Division that developed arms control negotiating policies and force structure recommendations for the US Commander in Chief, European Command. He then served as the US Defense Attache in Kiev, Ukraine, advising the Ambassador on all military and security-related issues. Returning to the Pentagon, Rob led a Division for the USAF Deputy Chief of Staff for operations. Rob's Division developed the architecture for the Air Force role in homeland security and national-level defense structure for NORTHCOM.

Rob holds a BS in Chemistry from Baylor University and an MA in Management from Webster University. He was a National Defense Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Conflict, Ideology and Policy at Boston University, and Fellow, Ukraine National Security Studies, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

Kristina S. Morgan is a teacher with decades of experience in the K-12 educational environment.  Kris started her career teaching science classes for Catholic schools in a variety of locations.  Moving eventually to Maryland, she continued teaching science and math at the junior high and high school levels in the public school systems.  After returning to college and earning a masters degree in talented and gifted education from the University of Connecticut, Kris began working in the Talented and Gifted Program Office for Prince George’s County in Maryland.  There, she was responsible for developing curricula for talented and gifted programs for the county, for training teachers in the philosophies of talented and gifted education, and for overseeing many of the special programs offered by the school system to enrich the educational experience.  Kris has been active for many years in the creative problem solving programs, such as Odyssey of the Mind and Destination ImagiNation.

Kris is also a very talented photographer who is called upon to document both formal meetings and events as well as informal occasions.  She has photographed people, places, and landscapes.  As a certified open water scuba diver, Kris has taken her photographic talents to the depths of the sea.  Kris’s portfolio of photographs range from magnified close-ups of vegetation to panoramic landscapes, from formal wedding photos to candid event shots. 

Aileen P. Ryan is a graduate of Villanova College with extensive experience in the day to day operations of technical enterprises.  Her experience includes installing and operating network systems, performing software configuration management for clients, and managing help desk operations.
